9 easy ways to refresh your decor for spring

As the winter months have dragged on, it's a refreshing change to see our hours of daylight lasting a bit longer. This has really motivated my urge to revamp my home for spring. Here are some tips on how to brighten your space in preparation for the season:

– Use white in your room. Whether it's an occasional chair or the two head chairs at the dining table, white fabrics on furniture or accessories can be an easy way to add some brightness and contrast to the space.

– Flowers are always a welcome sight. Try to think of unique ways to display them. For example, instead of a traditional vase, display them inside a glass urn or a ceramic vase that has an unusual shape.

– Colour can make a huge difference. Pick a focal wall in your home and change the paint colour. Choose something fresh and switch it up every couple of months.

– Artwork can be personal. Take a look at photos from trips or even old family photos and have them enlarged. Create a montage of black and white prints, but change the frames to a medley of light colours such as whites or antique creams.

– Lighten up your furniture. We've seen a lot of dark wood as the trend in furniture in the past few months, so try to choose lighter woods such as natural walnut or maple for spring.

– Make a statement with bold, colourful artwork. Put a larger scale piece on your wall for a stunning visual impact.

– Brighten up with patterns. Textiles with interesting and colourful motifs can brighten up a room through accent pillows, table runners and throws. Use lush colours and bold floral or geometric prints.

– Consider chrome. Using chrome-framed furniture, as shown in the photo, gives the space a lighter and more delicate feel.

– Reupholster existing pieces of furniture that seem lifeless and tired. This is a dramatic and fun way to give new energy to an old sofa or chair.

Hopefully these tips, and the much-anticipated mild weather, will help inspire you to refresh your home for spring.
